Campuses of Community and Action

Across the nation, Imagine scholars led remembrance events in honor of the 17 victims of the February 14 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. From student-led discussions on school safety at Imagine North Port, to gatherings at Imagine Weston and Imagine Chancellor, we remembered and honored these lives.

Middle school scholars at Imagine Broward, just one mile away from Marjory Stoneman, held a powerful Reflective Remembrance. Students gathered on campus and silently walked single file in a circle while “Lean On Me” played before meeting in the middle of the school field to form a 17 in remembrance of the 17 victims.

Campus leader Ms. Rosen led students through power yoga poses, ending in the eagle pose in honor of Marjory Stoneman’s mascot. There was a moment of silence before students signed a banner that read, “Birds of A Feather Flock Together” with Broward’s Phoenix mascot alongside an Eagle.

At Imagine Schools Chancellor, students and staff wore white and created a heart with 17 in the middle to show love and support. We’re so proud of our scholars for showing civic engagement and thankful they are remembering and paying tribute to the victims.

Ohio Teacher of the Year Honored

Our Imagine teachers are worth their weight in gold. This month, we honored one of our extraordinary charter school educators with the help of ABC13 television. Ashley VanderMeer, a Kindergarten teacher at Imagine Hill in Toledo, Ohio was named Imagine Schools’ Ohio Teacher of the Year and recognized for her excellence, passion and dedication to Imagine students. A surprise announcement came together with the help of 13abc; check out the video.

Ashley will now move on to compete for the Imagine National Teacher of the Year recognition. Congratulations, Ashley, and thank you for all the ways you enhance the lives of Imagine students.

Putting Down Roots In Arizona

Imagine Coolidge Elementary in Coolidge, Arizona was featured in the Coolidge Examiner for a park beautification project that honors veterans in the community. Students from the gardening club arrived at Veterans Memorial at the San Carlos Park to clean debris and flower beds.

With the $250 our students raised from school fundraisers, they were able to purchase and plant purple flowers, bringing beauty to the park and honor to veterans. It’s an example of Imagine Schools’ emphasis on positive character that prepares students to lead and serve our communities.
