“PORT ST. LUCIE — As a way to celebrate the opening of the National Football League’s 2011 season, the NFL offered a competition to schools across the country to show their team pride through its NFL Play 60 campaign geared toward improving fitness in children. The Imagine NAU Charter School in Port St. Lucie took up the challenge by having students create the shape of Florida while displaying signs of their favorite NFL teams.

“We need to do something to make us stand out because we’re competing against the entire country,” said Imagine NAU Charter School PTO Treasurer Kim Boyd who organized the event.

As a reward for their efforts, 34 schools will receive a $10,000 grant to go toward the promotion of health and wellness within their school.

Schools must submit three to six photos of their celebration and two 100-word essays explaining why health and wellness is important to their school and what they would do with the $10,000 prize.

The Imagine NAU Charter School would use the money to improve their physical education equipment and facilities including the construction of a basketball court, a low ropes course and a shaded area for their outdoor field.

Winners will be notified by Dec. 6.”
